Case Study A

Coaching a business owner writing e-zines for her Web site

The Client: An entrepreneur starting a business consulting firm whose clients are small business and technology companies.

The Situation: In business for several months, the company president wanted to increase marketing efforts by establishing an e-zine that would be sent to clients and prospects every three weeks. The e-zine would be short and to the point, offer one business strategy per issue and help small business owners build a repertoire of skills to help advance their companies. The client has more than 25 years of experience in education administration and business. She is an expert at helping small businesses grow but writing is not one of her major talents.

She knew what type of e-zine she wanted and who would be its target. WriteSmith’s job was to help her develop it.

The Solution: WriteSmith worked one-on-one with the client to break down the writing process and help her to:

  • Clarify points
  • Organize arguments
  • Narrow the focus of the e-zine
  • Correct copy for style, grammar, spelling and punctuation

The Result: The client has now published several e-zines. As a result of her collaboration with WriteSmith,

  • Writing e-zines has become easier for her.
  • Feedback has been positive and her confidence in her writing ability has increased
  • The e-zines have led to a 50-percent increase in her business
  • She is writing press releases and plans to write an article for the trade press
